Why Our Candles Are Aged (Yes, Like Wine)
At Old Orchard, every candle we pour goes through a little waiting period before it ever reaches your hands. It’s not because we’re slow (we’re actually moving nonstop back here), it’s because we believe scent, like stories, gets better with time.
So, what does it mean when we say our candles are aged?
The Short Version:
We let each candle sit for at least two weeks after it’s poured. That gives the fragrance oils time to fully bind with the wax, mellow out, and bloom into their most balanced, long lasting form.
The Long Version (Because You’re Here for It):
When a candle is first poured, the scent is fresh, sometimes a little too fresh. The oils haven’t fully settled in, and what you smell right away isn’t necessarily what you’ll get once it’s lit.
By giving our candles time to rest, we let the notes develop the way they’re meant to. You’ll notice:
-
A smoother throw (that’s candle-speak for how the scent fills a room)
-
Richer depth in every burn
-
A more refined, natural scent, as the aging process allows the oils to fully harmonize, resulting in a smoother and more balanced fragrance.
This process is especially important for our layered, story driven scents. The ones that evolve as they burn. Think smoky vanilla that softens into maple, or spring florals that drift into warm honey and herbal woods.
Why We Think It’s Worth the Wait:
In a world that moves quickly, we believe in taking our time. Aging our candles is just one way we ensure you're receiving something truly special, carefully crafted, complex, and made to fill your space with warmth and quality.
Thanks for waiting with us.
We promise it smells even better this way.
